You can choose between a light and dark mode in Slack across your devices. Dark mode helps make working in Slack easier on your eyes by using a darker, higher-contrast colour theme. This preference is device-specific – adjusting dark mode on the desktop app won’t sync with Slack on the browser or mobile app.

Use the steps below to turn on dark mode across your devices:

1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
   
2. Select Preferences.
3. Click Themes, then select Dark. Your changes will automatically save, so click the close icon when you've finished.

Note: On devices running iOS 13, turn on dark mode in Slack from your OS settings. You won't see the option for dark mode in your Slack preferences.

iOS 12 and earlier

1. Swipe left to open the right sidebar.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Toggle on Dark mode.

iOS 13

1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
2. Tap Display & brightness.
3. Under Appearance, select Dark.

3. Under General, select Dark Mode.

Note: On devices running Android 9 and earlier, select Battery saver if you’d like Slack to turn on dark mode automatically when your device goes into battery saver mode.

On the Slack app for Mac, iOS 13 or Android 10, you can sync dark mode in Slack with your operating system settings. This sync happens automatically on iOS 13. Use the steps below to sync dark mode in Slack with your Mac or Android 10 OS settings:

1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.

3. Select Themes.
4. Click the box next to Sync with OS setting.

Note: If you're not seeing the preference to sync dark mode with your OS setting, make sure that you're running the latest version of the Slack app for Mac.

2. Tap Settings.
3. Under General, select System default.

Other operating systems, like Windows and Linux, do not automatically switch between light and dark themes in Slack when your device does. This is something that we’re working on – stay tuned!
